Silje Høidal
Silje Høidal, born in 1984 in Oslo, Norway, is a visual artist who currently works in both Oslo and Hadeland. Specializing in oil painting, she employs a classical figurative style that intertwines elements of fantasy and surrealism. Her works are profoundly influenced by the Norwegian forest and landscapes, often featuring intricate details such as leaves, twigs, and stones. Through her art, Silje aims to harmonize the outer world with her inner experiences, granting both realms an equal presence in her creations.

Silje's artistic style is characterized by a blend of carefully rendering nature and expressing her inner landscape, executed within a classical figurative framework. She draws inspiration from renowned artists such as Peter Paul Rubens and John William Waterhouse, emphasizing the importance of craftsmanship in her paintings to ensure a high standard of quality. Her approach reflects a commitment to both technique and emotional resonance, as she seeks to convey deeper meanings through her visual narratives.

Many of Silje's motifs are inspired by a fantastical realm she co-created with her soul sister during childhood, centered around the concept of Melonia—a secret island hidden in the Atlantic Ocean. This mystical place serves as a paradise from which the Melonists originate and to which they return after their earthly journey. Unlike many childhood fantasies that fade over time, the idea of Melonia has matured and evolved, continually informing Silje’s artistic vision and manifesting in her work. Through her paintings, she invites viewers to explore this enchanted world, encouraging a sense of wonder and introspection.
